Old fence line
We're helping a friend tear down an old fence, in exchange for being able to keep any useable material for our own fence projects. We like the idea of bartering for goods, which we're finding more and more opportunities to do. The area where we're working is an ancient farm full of history and beauty. You can practically see the footprints of civil war soldiers and farmers who have passed through before us.

The Burn Pile
Our Burn Pile could only be described with a capital B and P! It was a sight to behold, and we invited the neighborhood to behold it. Unfortunately despite a liberal application of diesel fuel it failed to burn well since it was all green wood, but we enjoyed ourselves in the process nonetheless, and settled for a smaller fire for our smores. Below is also a "Before" picture to compare some of the garden work Eva and Claudia did.
Our friend Eva flew down for the weekend to help with gardening -- and not the easy variety! (Is there ever easy gardening?) In Virginia we have fast growing weeds -- I'm not exagerating when I say we had weeds up to our second storey windows! In addition to the weeds, we had bushes that needed major trimming, plants that needed to come out or needed transplanting, trees that had been planted too close to the house back when they were small and cute, and a lot of brush growing up through the fences around the property. Claudia and Eva went at them with chainsaws and 4x4 trucks with chains, and after three days of back-breaking work they were victorious!

Purcellville Tag Sale Day is when nearly the whole town of Purcellville has a garage sale, and many from the outskirts of town come and set up garage sales in the shopping parking lots. We found a few good deals, including a whole lot of books from the library book sale, and had lots of fun just walking around and browsing, with our friends Patti and Berghan. At the end we hopped on a free old fashioned shuttle bus with wooden benches and paneling which took us back to our car.
