Rain of petals

The view out our windows is dreary as rain has fallen steadily all day. It's also removing the last of our cherry blossoms which are scattered over the ground. We had a short and unseasonally cold and wet spring this year, so didn't get to enjoy our cherry blossoms as much as we would have liked. But I'm looking forward to warmer weather this week and the promise of green coming out from all the trees now that the first blossoms are fading.

We'd love to get a flowering fruit tree this year, but what's holding us back is the knowledge that swarms of rose-chafers will once again take over our acre in June--and these critters are crazy about anything that looks like flowers or fruit :-(

So neat to see little girl toys out in the yard!
